Living With Chronic Pain

Living with ongoing pain can make movement feel daunting, but gentle, regular activity can be one of the most helpful ways to support your body and mind. Being active doesn’t mean pushing through pain but it’s about finding safe, manageable ways to keep moving.

Regular movement helps protect your health in many ways and is especially important for people with chronic pain. Over time, it can help you feel more in control, more confident in your body, and better able to manage day-to-day life.

Health and Wellbeing Support

The SASP Health and Wellbeing Coaching service, in partnership with primary care networks, supports people with long term conditions to access physical activity to promote and protect their health. If you are living with a long term health condition, or are ready to take control of your health, our team of Health and Wellbeing Coaches can support you to make positive and sustainable changes to your lifestyle.

Staying active can help by

  • Keeping your joints moving: When joints feel stiff or sore, gentle movement can help ease discomfort and improve flexibility. Small, regular movements can help joints work more smoothly.

  • Keeping your muscles strong and supportive: Stronger muscles help support your joints and bones, making everyday movements feel easier and safer. Activities like standing up from a chair, walking or climbing stairs can become more manageable over time.

  • Supporting your mood and confidence: Chronic pain can affect how you feel emotionally as well as physically. Being active can help lift your mood, reduce anxiety and boost self-esteem. Group activities can also offer connection, support and a chance to enjoy yourself with others.

  • Helping your body manage pain: Regular movement supports your body’s natural pain-relief systems. Many people find that when activity becomes part of their routine, they feel a greater sense of wellbeing afterwards.
