Diabetes/Pre-Diabetes

Regular movement is one of the most powerful ways to support your health, and it doesn’t have to mean intense exercise or big changes. Small amounts of activity, done regularly, can have a big impact on how your body manages blood sugar and how you feel day to day.

Being active helps protect against serious health conditions such as heart disease and stroke, and it can also support a longer, healthier life. For people living with type 2 diabetes, or those at risk of developing it, moving more plays an especially important role.

Health and Wellbeing Support

The SASP Health and Wellbeing Coaching service, in partnership with primary care networks, supports people with long term conditions to access physical activity to promote and protect their health. If you are living with a long term health condition, or are ready to take control of your health, our team of Health and Wellbeing Coaches can support you to make positive and sustainable changes to your lifestyle.

Being active can help by

  • Supporting heart health: Regular movement can help lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, reducing the risk of diabetes-related complications and protecting your heart.

  • Boosting mood and reducing stress: Activity releases endorphins that help reduce stress and lift mood. Joining in with group activities can also be a great way to enjoy yourself, feel motivated and connect with others.

  • Helping manage blood sugar levels: Moving more helps your body use insulin more effectively, which can improve blood glucose (HbA1c) levels. For some people, regular activity, alongside other lifestyle changes, can even help put type 2 diabetes into remission. This means blood sugar levels may fall below the diabetes range, and medication may no longer be needed, making a real difference to long-term health.
