Walk Leader Volunteer

How long have you been volunteering for SASP?

I have been volunteering for SASP, as a Health Walk Leader for over 5 years now. I started by attending walks in Glastonbury, before doing the volunteer walk leader training. I then covered for leaders in Glastonbury and street, before taking over the Street walks in 2018, where we have increased numbers significantly.

What tasks do you carry out in your volunteering role?

As a Health Walk Leader, I plan, and risk assess suitable routes, lead walks regularly and report data back to my coordinator. I also produce promotional material for my walks and attend community events to promote them.

Why do you like volunteering?

I like volunteering because it gives me a purpose and a connection with the community. It helps greatly with my own health and wellbeing too.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about volunteering with SASP?

DO IT! It's a very rewarding position and you meet some brilliant people.
