How Covid 19 has impacted Jump Start

Jump Start Clubs

We have had to make the difficult decision to postpone all of out Jump Start Clubs for the foreseeable and will review this regularly as restrictions are changed. We will be sure to contact you about this when we are in a position to get them back up and running. To remind you the towns in which we run a weekly Jump Start Club are: Highbridge, Bridgwater, Taunton, Chard & Yeovil.

Jump Start Mentoring

Our team of mentors are very disappointed that we are unable to take on any more young people for the mentoring that we had not previously engaged with prior to the Christmas break. We are still allowing you as professionals to put young people forward who you feel may benefit from the project in the future and this can be done by clicking here. The positive is we are still able to support young people who had already met and were allocated a mentor through virtual content we are putting together. As I am sure you are aware the end goal for the mentoring is to integrate young people into local community sports club, of which, are currently not running.

Jump Start Leadership

We had planned to run the next leadership training days in the February half term at Bridgwater and Taunton College. We are currently waiting to hear back from them as to whether this is likely to go ahead, in the meantime we are looking at options to run something virtually for our young people on the leadership programme.

What is the virtual offer?

Our mentors are going to be working very hard to keep in touch with the young people who they have previously been working with. This will be shaped by whatever works best for the young person. It could be that they get involved in online group session with other young people from the project, or a weekly video/phone call with their mentor. If this isn't an option for anyone we are able to meet them face to face in a public space outside socially distanced. We are also opening this up for the young people who attend the Jump Start Clubs but may not have been allocated a 1:1 mentor. We will, in the first instance, be offering virtual group sessions for the following activities; boxing, bike maintenance & a fun circuit session. These will run in times after normal school hours so that it does not effect the young people attending if they are entitled too.
