Please note that the number of nominations a person or organisation has does not affect the chances of being shortlisted.
The deadline for nominations is Monday 16th September.
Nomination Categories and Criteria:
- Children's Coach of the Year - sponsored by Taunton School
In recognition of a person who coaches young people under the age of 16 and shows a high level of dedication and ability through innovative practice. This person shows evidence of the development of basic skills through fun in sport or physical activity, appropriate player-centred engagement and high quality coaching.
- Participation Coach of the Year
In recognition of a person who shows an outstanding contribution to getting more people starting, staying and succeeding in sport or physical activity through high quality delivery. This person will show evidence of widening access to sport or physical activity and may work in a specific community or area of low participation.
- Young Volunteer of the Year
In recognition of an individual under the age of 21 who has shown dedication, commitment and service to sport or physical activity across Somerset. Please note that they must be Under 21 as of 30/09/19.
- Volunteer of the Year
In recognition of an individual volunteer who has shown dedication, commitment and service to sport or physical activity within the community in Somerset.
- Club of the Year - sponsored by the Rotary Club of Taunton Vale
In recognition of a club who has shown significant development over the year through increasing opportunities, developing its workforce and/or gaining or maintaining accreditation.
- Get Somerset Active - sponsored by Sedgemoor Lifeline
In recognition of a person or project that have inspired, motivated and supported people within Somerset, through informal or formal sport or physical activity. This person or project will have been a driving force in getting more people participating in sport or physical activity and made a real difference.
- Early Years Setting of the Year
In recognition of an early years setting that has shown an excellent approach to providing a physically active setting. It will provide an important foundation for children and families to create positive relationships with physical activity leading into Primary School.
- Primary PE and Sport Premium - sponsored by Inspired Playgrounds
To recognise a school that has innovated and endeavoured to provide improved outcomes for pupils using the Primary PE and Sport Premium grant. This could be through; pupil engagement in physical activity, health and wellbeing; whole school improvement; up-skilling staff; broader sporting experience or increased participation competitive sport. Schools must evidence how their activity is sustainable.
- Contribution to Secondary or College Sport Award
Designed to reward a group/someone who has increased the profile, participation and/or awareness of school or college sport or physical activity in Somerset. The nominee(s) may be involved in school or college sport or physical activity at any level within Somerset.
- Active Workplace Award - sponsored by Stuart Todd Associates
In recognition of a workplace in Somerset that has adopted a positive approach towards the health and wellbeing of its employees through sport or physical activity.
- This Girl Can Award
In recognition of a woman/women that has encompassed the national campaign, overcoming the fear of judgement and doing their thing no matter how well they do it, how they look or even how red their faces get.
- Sports Performer of the Year - sponsored by Richard Huish College
In recognition of an outstanding performer who has achieved national or international success in their chosen sport.
*Please note that when talking about a coach we mean anyone that improves a person's experience of sport and physical activity by providing specialised support and guidance aligned to their individual needs and aspirations.
The 2019 Somerset Activity & Sport Awards will celebrate and give recognition to the achievements and successes of outstanding athletes, inspirational volunteers, great coaches, community clubs and organisations from across Somerset. This year the awards evening for the finalists will be held on Friday 15th November 2019 at Somerset County Cricket Club.
As a local business we would love to give you the opportunity to sponsor an award. We are offering the opportunity to sponsor individual awards for £250, for this you will receive the following benefits:
