Early Years News - October 2019

Shepton Mallet Full of Beans Workshop
We successfully ran our first ever Full of Beans workshop in Shepton mallet. We had recently realised that we weren't getting settings from all over the county and had a thought that it must be due to travel/time. Due to this, the Early Years team managed to secure a lovely venue at Shape Mendip District Council offices for the workshop. We would like to thank everyone who took time out of their day to attend our workshop and hope you all took something positive away from the day.
Early Years Physical Activity Group
Our EYPA group met again in October to discuss how we can continue to drive physical activity in Early Years. We discussed how our Early Years audit can progress to have another level in the future for settings/childminders to achieve. Reflecting since we started the group in 2018, it's amazing to see how much everyone has achieved so far in the group and we look forward to growing this even more in the future. If you would like to know more about the group, please get in contact with the Early Years team.
Rickshaw Challenge - We want Early Years settings to get involved in the challenge this year!
Last year, Somerset schools took part in a virtual version of the BBC's Children in Need 'The One Show's Rickshaw Challenge' . Organised by Somerset Activity & Sports Partnership's School Games programme, 25 schools and 5,000 pupils took part in different physical activity challenges during the BBC Children in Need week (12-16 November).
Many schools succeeded their target of achieving 423 miles over the week. In total, 15,937 miles were completed in 7 days collectively and an incredible £12,136 was raised. An amazing achievement by all involved.
This year, Children in Need week will be 11-15 November. To sign up for find out more, click here.
