Message from the SASP Team

In light of the latest guidance regarding COVID 19, SASP is not business as usual, but we are still 100% committed to improving the physical and emotional wellbeing of our residents in Somerset. That won't ever change. While our face to face work is mainly having to be postponed, we are still committed to trying to provide the enthusiasm and motivation to support people to move more regardless of where this is. We are looking at some ordinary solutions around free on-line content but also working to create exercise classes live to your home through Facebook Live as well as piloting working with the community to distribute resistance band activity to our older adults who are having to self-isolate to keep muscles strong and boredom at bay.

Our team are already set up to work remotely from our office and have now started to do so. We will be working flexibly and plan to switch any existing face to face meetings to video and / or conference calls when possible, otherwise to phone calls. Maybe this will herald a new more environmentally friendly way to work? Like everyone else though we will miss meeting lots of people and connecting with our communities – it is what makes us love the job after all. However, keeping everyone safe is our greatest driver and slowing the spread of coronavirus and protecting our more vulnerable adults is really important.

Sport England have just published a dedicated webpage which details some of the ways they're supporting at this time and this can be found here - https://www.sportengland.org/news/coronavirus-information-sector

SASP also has a dedicated webpage to assist people working at home, families, older people and the residents of Somerset to be active in their own homes. This will grow in content over time and will be a hub of information for partners and the public to use, in order to keep moving. SASP's 'Be Active At Home' webpage can be found here - https://www.sasp.co.uk/be-active-at-home

We'll stay in touch with any further changes and take care.
