SASP awards celebrate volunteering, coaching and young sporting success

More than 150 people of all ages and abilities came together on Friday 15th November to celebrate the Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership annual awards held at The Cooper Associates Cricket Ground, Taunton. The awards, organised by Somerset Activity & Sports Partnership (SASP) highlight the achievements and successes of inspirational volunteers, outstanding coaches, talented athletes and high quality and friendly clubs from across the County. Jane Knowles, SASP CEO, gave a warm welcome to proceedings before introducing Ben McGrail, West Country Correspondent for ITV, who, back by popular demand, was the host for the evening.

This year saw over 90 entries for awards across 12 categories, all of which highlighted the fantastic achievement in the County promoting sports and activity development. Jane Knowles said; "as an Active Partnership it is important to recognise the tireless efforts of those involved in sport and activity. Volunteers are the backbone of community sport and without them sport cannot function. Great coaches not only support athletes to realise their potential but help to create an important lifelong love of sport and physical activity".

During the evening guests were also persuaded to #SitLess and #MoveMore by getting up off their seats for some fun activities, inspired by the award winning SASP Active Workplace offer. Through one of the activities, £146 was raised for Children in Need, supporting their fantastic local work.
