The SASP Active Spaces project is a community focused exercise and activity programme, which aims to offer exercise sessions to the full range of people within the chosen communities i.e. older people, families and adults. The project uses high quality instructors to deliver all of the exercise sessions and offers members extremely accessible, high quality exercise sessions on their doorstep and for a very low cost.
Members range from people who have been inactive for quite some time right through to those who exercise regularly. This means that sessions will need to be relevant and adaptable for all fitness levels and instructors need to be welcoming and take into account that some members may be apprehensive as they are at the start of their exercise journey.
The Active Spaces project is currently running in 6 different locations: Apex Park in Burnham on Sea, Nether Stowey, Minehead, Stogursey, Watchet and Williton.
These areas were chosen to kick off the project as they are some of the most impacted on by the building of Hinckley point. The communities in these areas are hugely affected particularly by more traffic on the roads and the influx of new workers living in the areas. The Active Spaces project offers the community a chance to exercise, socialise and improve their wellbeing, all without leaving their immediate locality.
