We look forward to welcoming everyone to the annual Somerset Summer School Games on Thursday and Friday this week. We are expecting over 2000 school children to take part in the games across the 2 days, held at the amazing facilities of Millfield Senior School in Street.
There are 19 different events taking place with 26 schools attending on Thursday 5th July and 49 schools attending on Friday 6th July. We also have 21 schools who have entered the open competitions. These competitions have the school games values at the heart of the event - encouraging more and different young people to have the opportunity to take part and participate in the school games.
We are excited to announce up and coming Taekwondo athlete Katie Stone will be performing at the opening ceremony on Thursday. Taunton based 16 year old Katie is European champion in her division and will be showing off her skills and pad work. Dancers from Berrow Primary School and Westover Green School will be performing on Friday for the crowds.
The event could not take place without our volunteers and leaders. We welcome leaders from Westfield Academy, Heathfield School, Sexeys School, Bucklers Mead School, Brymore, Elmhurst School and Richard Huish College who will be supporting staff throughout the event, and also valuable funding from Sport England and The National Lottery that makes these events possible!
