Minehead Swimming
Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update (4th March 2021)
We know a number of you have asked about an update on our Swim School within Minehead. We fully appreciate parents continued frustration at not being able to access swimming lessons for your children at St Michaels School and Butlins, which are the sites we use in West Somerset. As you may know swimming lessons can return from 12th April as leisure centres and swimming pools are allowed to re-open under Government guidance and Step 2 of its Roadmap.
Unfortunately, Butlins is still unable to facilitate any external bookings for its sports and splash facilities, they will officially re-open on 17th May, although it is still unclear whether they will be able to accommodate any external bookings for their facilities. The pool at St Michael's School is too small to ensure the necessary social distancing and the reduced capacity which we must operate with. Based on the recommended minimum – 6 m2 per person, this makes it also unviable to run still at the current time.
We are constantly reviewing the Government and Swim England Return to Swimming guidance, and if measures around social distancing are relaxed, which the Government's Roadmap indicates could happen around 21st June, we will review the situation again. However given these timescales, and the Summer Term scheduled to finish w/c 19th July, it is probably that we will not be able to re-start until Autumn 2021.
