Early Years News - June 2019

EYFS PA Group

The month of June saw our early year's physical activity group meet again. Lots of interesting discussions and actions were taken away from the meeting; one of the most exciting points was discussion around introducing nutrition into Full of Beans workshops. We also discussed our PA audit with the settings that are on the 6 months pilot and received positive feedback. The group also liked the idea of more resources being put onto SASP EY website with videos of us delivering sessions in settings. Please get in contact if you would like to become a part of our EYFS PA group.

FoB Sessions

June has been a busy month for the early year's team delivering Full of Beans sessions to staff, families and children. We have been trying to target reception classes as they can often be over looked as part of the EYFS therefore we have been busy in Minehead First School & St Joseph's. Full of Beans at St Joseph's has been based around family engagement and allowing the class teacher to build relationships with parents which helps children with transitions for school readiness.

Strode College

The early year's team are continuing to grow relationships with colleges across Somerset to target apprentices that are studying child care. Our aims of this are to work in partnership with colleges to up-skill apprentices through Full of Beans workshops to support their knowledge of physical activity in the EYFS.

WHO News/Guidelines

New guidelines have been released by the World Health Organisation based around physical activity, sedentary behaviour and sleep for children less than 5 years of age. The document makes for an interesting read and has lots of facts around what is recommended for each age range in the EYFS.
