Early Years News - January 2019
Full of Beans comes to Octopus Day Care Center:
After attending a Full of Beans workshop Janet, the Nursery manager, was keen to engage the children at her setting into more physical activity. After arranging dates and times, Stuart and Dan (Zing Somerset Children and Family Workers) attended 4 sessions for the children aged 2-4. As part of the sustainability staff also attended a workshop during a staff meeting that helped them to understand the 'whys' and 'hows' of the sessions, this developed knowledge will hopefully encourage them to run sessions on their own.
"The children engaged well with staff, Stuart and Dan. The children took part in all activities, listened well and followed instructions. They had great fun with the different themes while discovering different ways of moving and learning at the same time".
Full of Beans Workshop for 10 new settings:
Free isn't a word that is commonly used without a 'catch' however in January this totally free workshop was offered for EYFS settings across Somerset. Whilst attending, EYFS practitioners (which included reception teachers, pre-school staff and childminders) had the opportunity to share their own successful physical activity initiatives, get a better understanding of the local and national guidance on physical activity and of course have some fun by playing and learning some new physical activities that they could take back to their own setting.
