SASP’s Coach & Volunteer Day is a fantastic opportunity for coaches and volunteers to come together and access training that will enhance their knowledge and benefit their clubs and athletes. The day is great value with the cost subsidised to ensure access for all. You can access 1 workshop for £25 or 2 workshops for £35 (including First Aid which is all day). Please note that workshops will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and that lunch will only be provided for those attending two workshops.

Emergency First Aid at Work Level 2 - SOLD OUT
Emergency First Aid at Work Level 2 qualification (EFAW) is ideal for most businesses, coaches and instructors whose require a 1 day first aid course. This is an informative and practical course delivered by experienced active coaches, with years of medical experience. All courses are delivered; evaluated and quality assured to meet the new guidelines set out by the HSE in October 2013 and meet the requirements of the First Aid at Work (First Aid) regulations 1981 - SOLD OUT
Morning Workshops (9.15am – 12.15pm)
Safeguarding & Protecting Children
Every child deserves to enjoy their sport. This workshop will raise your awareness of the tell-tale signs of abuse, and give you the tools and confidence you need to deal with any issues sensitively, appropriately and effectively should the need ever arise in your coaching career.
Injury Prevention and Management
This workshop is tailored towards injury prevention in sport. This will be very interactive with taping and stretching being not only demonstrated but practiced by you. This workshop will cover; common injuries and how to avoid them; the principles of kinesiology taping to support and aid recovery; common muscles and how they are used; practical taping that you can use pitch side and at home; stretching to help avoid injury and specific muscles associated with your sport and advice on injuries that you may already have and remedial advice on rehabilitation.
real Coaching: Behaviour Management and The Power of Language
In module 3 from the real coaching programme candidates will explore the root causes of challenging behaviours. The module will focus on the power of language and how it can be used to develop a positive culture for learning. Everyone will have the opportunity to explore a range of strategies to prevent and deal with poor behaviour, and ways to actively encourage appropriate behaviour. Following the module candidates will be ready to apply practical solutions to prevent, manage and resolve challenging behaviours. Strength & Conditioning
A practical based workshop building on previous ones (although attendance not necessary) on how to integrate strength and conditioning activities into your coaching sessions. Utilising minimal equipment this workshop covers:
how to add conditioning into your warm ups; age appropriate exercise; how to make S & C sport specific; pre-habilitation exercises for common sports injuries and how to develop efficient movement.
Psychology - WORKSHOP POSTPONED
Join this 3 hour workshop with World Champion Mindsport coach Rob Dawson, exploring the importance of understanding and control in areas around pressure, fear and anxiety in order to instil a true champion mindset and maximise performance. This workshop will break down and explore each topic in a procedural format enhancing the understanding and impact each area can have on sports performance and explore methods of control to enable athletes to flourish and develop a true champion mentality. WORKSHOP POSTPONED.
Afternoon Workshops (1.00pm – 4.00pm)
A practical workshop that will help improve your knowledge, competence and confidence in delivering sports based activities to disabled people. You will learn about practical tools to support inclusive delivery and explore creative ideas to support disabled people to access physical activity and sport.
Netball: Winning the Ball
This workshop will examine how coaches can develop defensive practices that are both variable and relevant in a game context to ensure that players are encouraged to make decisions on how, where and when to force errors and/or turnovers. Coaches will be introduced to the principles of defending and will have the opportunity to observe and analyse performance. Through this process coaches will develop their questioning technique encouraging the player to make considerations and effective decisions based on the cues that are happening around them.
Hockey: Engaging Games for Children - WORKSHOP POSTPONED
This workshop is designed for coaches that: coach children in any environment (clubs, schools, etc.; want for practical and up to date games to deliver to their player; need ideas on how to coach games rather than basic drills or want to share ideas and learn from other coaches. By the end of the workshop coaches should be able to: describe and apply the 'C' system model of positive development in hockey; describe and apply the Golden Thread for the coaching of children; develop practical ideas on HOW to deliver fun, exciting and dynamic games to facilitate effective learning environments for children and understand that the game is the teacher, the pitch is the classroom, the coach is the facilitator. WORKSHOP POSTPONED
This is a 3 hour safety awareness course for all those involved in rugby. The World Rugby (IRB) Rugby Ready programme was launched to educate, aid and support players, coaches, match officials on the importance of sufficient preparation for training and playing in order for rugby to be played and enjoyed while reducing the risk of serious injury. Please note that if you are attending this workshop only the cost will be £5.
Sight Loss Awareness and Guide Running
The Sight Loss Awareness and Guide Running workshop enables Leaders, Coaches and Volunteers to attract and support more visually impaired (VI) people to athletics and running. It includes information on: types of visual impairment and common eye conditions; appropriate behaviour and terminology; making sessions VI friendly; guide running top tips and safety; guide running practical sessions and further support and resources. Please be aware that this is a 2 hour workshop.
