Virtual Workshops in the Easter Holidays (Spaces left)
School holidays can be pressure points for some families because of increased costs (such as food and childcare) and reduced incomes. For some children that can lead to a holiday experience gap - with children from disadvantaged families less likely to access organised out-of-school activities; more likely to experience 'unhealthy holidays' in terms of nutrition and physical health; and more likely to experience social isolation.
Through funding by the Department for Education, Somerset County Council and Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership (SASP) are working in partnership to deliver The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme for children eligible for free school meals in Somerset.
The aim of this fund is to make the positive benefits of holiday clubs available to all those on benefits-related free school meals for at least four hours a day, four days a week for six school holiday weeks of the year.
Easter Holidays Offer...
Face to Face Provision
30 organisations have been confirmed to deliver face-to-face enriching activities for young people aged 5 – 16 years. Organisations across the county will be offering 4 half days to young people in receipt of free school meals. It is planned that there will be provision for 2200 young people on free school meals to access these opportunities during Easter.
Contact your school for details on holiday provision near you. Places are free for those on free school meals, and a cost to those that aren't.
SASP has worked with a variety of local partners to provide a virtual offer for children where there is no face-to-face provision offered this Easter. A programme of workshops has been created for children (eligible for free school meals) to access from home that are designed to provide a range of enrichment opportunities.
These sessions will take place live online and include a range of topics from modelling workshops with Aardman, science workshops to drama workshops and more. Resources needed for these workshops will be sent home to children, along with food boxes that includes ingredients for breakfast and lunch for 1 week, supplied by Morrison's.
