Children in Need Virtual Rickshaw Challenge
Schools Challenge 2019

Last year, Somerset schools took part in a virtual version of the BBC's Children in Need The One Show's Rickshaw Challenge. Organised by Somerset Activity & Sports Partnership (SASP) School Games programme, 25 schools and 5,000 pupils took part in different physical activity challenges during the BBC Children in Need Week (12-16 November 2018).
Many schools succeeded their target of achieving 423 miles over the week. In total, 15,937 miles was completed in 7 days collectively and an incredible £12,136 raised. An amazing achievement by all involved.
We want to replicate this for 2019 and get many more children and schools involved. We also encourage surrounding Counties to take part in the challenge with us.
During Children in Need week in November 2019 (11th - 15th) the challenge for schools is to be active and attempt to achieve the 423-mile virtual rickshaw challenge. This can be done as a whole school (house/inter tutor/or within lesson competition). Teams can count:
- Distance to walk/scoot/bike to school
- Mile a day runs
- Fitness Suite challenges using gym bikes/treadmill/etc.
- Fun active school activities
However you want to achieve it, and if 423 miles is too far in 1 week you could always choose to complete a leg of the journey and complete that instead.
We would love to make this even bigger for 2019, raising awareness of the benefits of physical activity and being active and the power communities coming together has when raising funds for charity.
