Early Years News - April 2019

The Brambles Day Nursery
Full of Beans sessions start at The Brambles Day Nursery. After a general inquiry to the SASP early years team, the Brambles day nursery arranged four sessions to engage families, raise activity levels and increase staff confidence and knowledge of physical activity. The first of four monthly sessions entertained around 8 families when they all went on a walk through the woods in the hunt for a variety of healthy snacks... next time the families will become pirates and sail the ocean on the lookout for buried treasure.

Bridgwater and Taunton College Apprenticeships
A new approach for the SASP early years team has come from a partnership with Bridgwater and Taunton College. Providing knowledge and inspiration to learners on the early years apprenticeship courses through a physical activity workshop has started to influence the new practitioners within early years. Helping with different units within their course, learners have been really engaged.
"I found full of beans really useful as working in partnership with other professionals, I have already used some of the games and activities at my setting and the children enjoyed it. Many thanks"
A comment from one learner on their feedback forms. A future session is booked in and we are closely working with the full time learners to arrange the same opportunity to them.
EYFS Physical Activity Audit
A part of the EYFS PA Group, a Physical Activity Audit has been developed in the aid of providing accreditation and recognition to settings that have implemented and are developing a strong physical activity provision in their setting. More news will follow about this as opportunities for other settings across Somerset become involved after the trial has completed.
