2019/2020 School Games

This year nearly all Primary, Secondary and Parallel county finals will take place outside of the Somerset School Games Spring and Summer Festivals. Finals will be held throughout the year at venues across Somerset. The only exceptions are primary tennis and primary quad kids - these two finals will remain as part of the summer school games festival at Millfield.

We hope that by changing the format of the finals it will enable schools to free up staff to bring new and different young people to the School Games festivals in the Spring and Summer.

We are currently working on the programme for the Spring and Summer Festivals and details will be available by December 2019.

Details of the county finals events are available now on the School Games Calendar.

Competition Calendar

It is with much thought and great regret that SASP has made the difficult decision to cancel all School Games fixtures for primary and secondary schools for the remainder of this Spring term as well as the Spring School Games on the 2nd April 2020. We will be in touch regarding the summer term programme and events for children as government guidance develops. Schools are already taking these decisions individually and this is also an important part of the decision making.

We will be looking at how we can support schools to keep the positive messages around the importance of physical activity for their students and look at how we might do this given the restrictions that we may see in the future.

Somerset School Games Spring Event - Thursday 2nd April 2020

What will we offer?

  • Inspirational Activity Leaders with the right experience to work with our target group.
  • Personal Development cards on which Teachers can record the achievements of their pupils at the Event. This will lead to certificates and awards to take back to school.

For Secondary pupils

4 x activity rotation stations made up of:

Cycling & fitness/Indoor Rowing/ Run and Laser Shoot/ Inline skating.

For Primary Pupils

Motiv8 and Invasion skills

We will determine success of the Spring Games by…..

Inspiring at least 30% of young people to take up an activity after the Festival.

By 50% of young people achieving at least two personal development challenges.

We will evidence our success through Pupil Voice before, during and after the Event. Ideally we would like schools to bring the same children to both Spring and Summer events.

How can schools enter?
