Somerset Summer School Games Winners 2017

Yr 3/4 Mini-Red Tennis

Dunster emerged as Taunton area Yr 3/4 Mini-Red Tennis champions closely beating Wellesley Park in the final. The match was tied 2 all in games but Dunster finished 1st by winning more points.

Thanks to the great leaders from Richard Huish College that umpired the games

Yr 6 Rounders Finals

Congratulations to Creech St Michael who won the Taunton Area Yr 6 Rounders Competition played at Castle School. They narrowly beat Trinity who were runners up. Milverton were 3rd. Good luck to all 3 teams who will represent the area at the County Finals at Millfield on Friday 7th July

Yr 5 Kwik Cricket

Congratulations to Bishop Henderson who won the Tone area Kwik Cricket Competition at Taunton Vale, beating North Town narrowly in the final. Good luck to both teams who will represent the area in the County Finals

Yr 6 Kwik Cricket Finals 2017

Congratulations to Trinity School who won the Tone area Kwik Cricket Competition by beating Trull in the finals at Taunton Vale.

Good Luck to both teams who will be representing the area at The County Finals at Taunton Vale on Thursday 29th June

High 5 Primary Netball Finals 2017

Congratulations to Parkfield for winning the Tone area High 5 Netball finals with Creech St Michael emerging runners up. St Andrews were 3rd and Trull 4th. Good luck to all 4 schools who will represent the area at the Somerset School Games Finals at Millfield on Friday 21st April

Basketball Finals 2017

Congratulations to Trinity who emerged as area basketball champions, with St Georges Runners Up. Good luck to both teams who will be representing Tone Schools at the School Games Finals at Millfield on Thursday 20th April.

Hockey Winners 2016-17

Winners Rockwell Green

Congratulations to Rockwell Green (Winners) and Parkfield (Runners Up) who will be representing the area at the School Games county finals on Thursday 20th April at Millfield school. Both semi-finals went to penalty runs, with each player having 8 seconds to dribble the ball in from the half way line and score. Congratulations also to 3rd Trull and 4th St Georges.

Key Steps Gymnastics 2017

Bridgwater and Taunton College (Taunton Centre) hosted the Tone area Key Steps Competition on Thursday 9th March. All competitors had to complete a floor sequence and then perform a vault, being judged by staff from SASP. The competition has expanded over the last 3 years with 38 teams from Years 3/4 & 5/6 taking part.

Football Winners 2016-17

Our football leagues have been taking place at Castle School, Heathfield School and Kings College during the past few months. All the competitions have now finished - congratulations to the following schools that have qualified for the ESFA County Cup competitions:

Girls Football: 1. Wellesley Park 2. Creech St Michael

Small Schools Football: 1. North Curry 2. Ruishton

Large Schools Football: 1. Minehead 2. Bishop Henderson

Primary Handball launched at Heathfield

12 teams attended the first primary school Handball competition at Heathfield on Wednesday 2nd November. After some coaching and explanation of rules and tactics all teams played 3 games officiated by young leaders from Heathfield School. It was great to see different children taking part and experiencing a new game. Two more events are planned

School Games Mark Success

Congratulations to the 30 schools below who have achieved the School Games Mark for the 2015-16 academic year. Its great to see so many schools have progressed this year onto the higher award

Congratulations to Wiveliscombe Primary School who won the Tone area Basketball finals at Heathfield School. In the round robin tournament, they won 4 and drew 1 of their games. Runners Up were North Town. Both teams now represent the area at the School Games Finals on Friday 15th April

Congratulations to Trull who won the area netball Tournament at Castle School on the 17th March. In a tense final against Parkfield the game went to a Golden Goal after it finished 2 - 2 after full time. Trull kept their nerve to win 3 - 2.

Bishops Lydeard came 3rd. All 3 schools will represent the Tone area at the School Games finals at Millfield on the 14th April

Congratulations to Milverton who won the Tone Area Primary School Hockey competition. However, it was due to scoring more goals as there was a 3-way tie for 1st place. Milverton, North Town and Danesfield all finished on 4 points after winning and losing one game in the 1st placed play off pool. With the goal difference also the same, Milverton scored more goals to emerge as Champions. North Town moved into 2nd position as they beat Danesfield in their head to head game.

Congratulations to Trull and Stawley who won our area Tag Rugby competitions on Tuesday 8th March. They will be joined by Bishop Henderson and West Monkton (who finished in 2nd and 3rd place) at the School Games county finals at Tor Rugby Club on 12th April.

Congratulations to Creech St Michael Boys who won the Tone Area Boys Large Schools Football competition and along with runners up West Monkton now represent the area in the County Finals on the 29th January at Bridgwater College Academy

Congratulations to Stawley Boys who won the Tone Area Boys Small School Schools Football competition and along with runners up Oake, Bradford & Nynehead now represent the area in the County Finals on the 22nd January at Bridgwater College Academy

Congratulations to St Andrews girls who won the Tone Area Girls Football competition and along with runners up Milverton now represent the area in the County Finals on the 15th January at Bridgwater College Academy.

SPORTSHALL ATHLETICS

Primary Sportshall Athletics competitions took place on 5th November and 12th November at Kings College. 13 teams took part on each date, which saw all athletes compete in 2 track and 2 field events each.

The medalists on the day were as follows:

5th November: 1st Bishop Henderson 2nd Wellesley Park

12th November: 1st St Georges 2nd North Town

Congratulations to Bishop Henderson and St Georges who will now go through to the School Games County Finals at Millfield on 15th December

The Y5 Outdoor Ed festival took place at Norton Manor Marine Camp on 26th June. 574 children attended the day and were split into separate teams of around 10 pupils. Each team took part in 4 different team building/leadership activities during the day: Rollerball, Orienteering, Capture the Flag and a Biathlon. Thanks to Issy Hogevold and Rocco Ward from Crowcombe & Stogumber school who have written the following report about the day:

The Tone primary Grass Track Cycling competition took place on 7th May at Somerset College, supported by students from the college.

12 teams took part in the morning session and a further 12 teams in the afternoon. Each team had 5 races, racing in a team pursuit format over 6 laps of the track.

Congratulations to the following teams that have qualified for the School Games at Millfield on 3rd July: Year 5: Minehead A and West Monkton ; Year 6: Milverton A and Trinity A

Congratulations to St George's who won the Somerset School Games Tag Rugby finals at Millfield School on 16th April 2015.

16 teams competed in the event, including 4 teams from our area: St Georges, Trull, West Monkton and Kingston St Mary - who all qualified from our area event.

3 of our schools won their pool games in the morning session and then competed against each other in the 'CUP' competition in the afternoon. Final standings were:

1st St Georges 2nd Trull 3rd West Monkton 4th Neroche
