Netball clubs and coaching |
Netball is a team game where speed, strategy, team work and co-ordination are essential skills. It’s about running, jumping, throwing, catching, attacking and defending.
SASPs in conjunction with the Somerset County Junior League aim to provide coaching and competitive opportunities to all young netballers aged 11-16 years.
SASPs are working with all junior netball clubs, both well established clubs and new clubs to develop their club through the England Netball Club Action Planning Scheme (CAPS). Offering their members opportunities to attend coaching, umpiring and Child Protection courses plus many other related courses.
SASPs has also established two Netball Satellite Academies, one for players Under 15 and one for players Under 13. Every secondary school and junior netball club in Somerset was asked to send talented netball players along to trial for places at these academies. 44 girls have now been selected for the academies for 2004/2005 and they will be receiving excellent coaching from well qualified and experienced coaches.

Somerset Junior Netball League |
On a cold and frosty November morning 11 junior netball clubs met at Wells Blue School, Wells for the third round league matches. The 11 clubs were from all over Somerset including the newest club to the league, West Somerset Under 14s who had to travel all the way from Minehead. Thirty two teams were entered into this round of the competition in age categories for Under 12s, Under 13s, Under 14s and Under 15s.
In the Under 12 league Yeovil 1 are unbeaten with Galmington close behind them having only lost one game. It was great to see Paulton back in the competition with their newly formed junior club and their under 12 team were delighted as they managed to score their first goal of the season.
In the Under 13 league things are very tight with Galmington, Yeovil and Tor all competing for top position.
The under 14 age category is very competitive with four teams at the moment battling it out for top spot, ie. Tor, Wells, Yeovil and Chilcompton.
In the smallest of our groups, the Under 15s, we have two unbeaten teams, namely Bridgwater and Galmington.
We have a break now for Christmas but all teams will be ready for more action on Sunday 29th January 2006 at Wells Blue School, Wells starting at 10am.
