Girls’ football in Taunton received a massive boost with the presentation of a cheque for £30,010.
Taunton MP Adrian Flook handed over the massive sum from the Football Foundation when he visited the Somerset Girls County Championships being played near Millfield School.
Mr Flook said “this is a very generous grant and I know it will go a long way to helping girls football in Somerset develop in the way it should. |
“Of course, it will help encourage more young people to take part in sport and so enter into a competitive spirit which is something I think we should be encouraging”.
The award made to the Somerset Activity and Sport Partnership based on Staplegrove Road, will kick start a countywide football development scheme, offering coaching, competitive opportunities, tournaments and after school football clubs.
The programme will also concentrate on increasing the number of trained coaches and volunteers, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the programme. The Football Foundation is dedicated to revitalising the grass roots of the game, constructing modern football facilities, developing football as a vehicle for education in communities throughout the country.
