1.1 Strategic Co-ordination

2. SASP WORK STRANDS

2.1 Club Development
· Increase number of clubmark accredited clubs

· Develop Asset Utilisation project for Sport England around 14 clubs/sports centres

2.2 Coaching
· Continue to develop high quality pool of coaches who can deliver to all partners requirements i.e. schools, sport and the wider agenda around physical activity
· Develop coaching agency ideal to provide long-term career opportunities for coaches i.e. rookie coach, community coach, talent development coach, coach manager
· Train and deploy talent development coaches as part of the SASP talent development strategy
· Deploy coaches in clubs in liaison with specific Governing Bodies
· Continue to develop CPD resources for coaches
· Continue to support voluntary coaches in clubs
· Maintain COVIS coaches database

2.3 Volunteers
· Continue to promote Step into Sport across both schools and HE/FE partners
· Develop ‘community champions’ idea for improving activity levels in rural areas

2.4 Health and Active Living
· Continue to support and develop work of Somerset County Council Active Workplace Manager – develop policy for private companies in Somerset as part of the LAA activity agenda and 2012 business strategy
· Develop with partners physical activity promotional schemes to achieve targets in the LAA
· Promote use of the natural environment to encourage physical activity i.e. links with Sports Tourism Manager, Tour of Britain Manager and Local Authority initiatives
· Develop links with Children’s Trust (CYPD) Locality Teams to promote physical activity and sport i.e. Early Years and Family Learning, disaffected young people, DASH, holiday opportunities etc
· Support work of SPAG (Somerset Physical Activity Group) e.g. exercise referral schemes, flexercise (older people mobility scheme), health walks

2.5 Education and Young People
· Sustain and develop PPA contracts with primary schools and after school clubs
· Continue and develop close working relationships with school sport partnerships
· Continue to promote Step into Sport, JSLA, CSLA volunteering opportunities for young people
· Continue to promote LTAD principles with all partners
· Develop SASP delivery in CYPD Locality teams and/or 4 Locality Areas by March 2008


2.6 Talent Development including Competition Managers

· Develop talent development programme and support for those young people on the programme
· Develop role/scope of the talent development coaches, supporting links to NGB pathways
· Continue to develop link with Millfield regarding talent ID/development days and other initiatives evolving from the 2012 Training Camp
· Host/assist competition managers in the delivery of the new competition framework

2.7 Workforce Development
Develop a workforce development plan to include
· CPD for all SASP contracted coaches (multi skill/sport specific modules)
· CPD for all SASP managers/staff
· CPD for teachers/AOTTS around PE/sport delivery
· CPD programmes for coaches/officials/volunteers in voluntary clubs and community groups
· Training for Early Years and other Locality Team staff in physical activity programmes e.g. Tops, DASH, Youth Workers etc

3. INVESTMENT
· Maintain existing funding streams from Sport England and other partners
· Develop own income stream through Somerset 2012 ‘business offer’, charitable status, coaches ‘buy in’, endowments and other partner contributions
· Develop CIF application process through CSN’s (three bids by March 2008)

4. STRATEGIC PLANNING
· Publish Somerset Facility Strategy as part of Somerset 2012 to enable strategic approach to the provision of new facilities and developers contributions in the county
· Develop close links with Somerset Strategic Partnership through Somerset 2012 group
· Maintain high profile for LAA physical activity targets alongside other themes
· Develop Trust status links with County Council dual use centre sites
· Developing Somerset 2012 strategy as a 5 year planning tool for all SASP partners in sport and physical activity
