What can you get from it? Back to top

There’s so much to be gained from getting involved in volunteering with different organisations. Okay, so you’re not getting paid as a volunteer, but the benefits are stills there, which could help you in the future.
  • Meet new people and make new friends
  • Develop Leadership skills and experience.
  • Fulfil ongoing college course requirements.
  • Gain further qualifications. (For example NGB Awards)
  • Develop your Curriculum Vitae.
  • Building prospects towards future job opportunities.
  • Certification on completion of hours
  • And of course gaining a huge sense of achievement.

What do I need to do if I’m interested?

If you’re a student at a college then its possible that you could get involved with the Community Volunteering stage of the Step into Sport programme. You should ask your PE department for further information.

If you’d just like to register your potential interest as a volunteer then complete and return the Volunteering Interest Form and SASP will do their best to put you in touch with a suitable club.

Volunteer Coordinators Back to top

Every club looking to host a volunteer needs to provide a coordinator to be responsible for the welfare and development of each individual to ensure that they get the most from their volunteering experience. It could be that this role progresses into developing volunteering recruitment strategies in liaison with SASP and their respective National Governing Body to promote the value of volunteers still further.

Coordinators need to be approachable and sympathetic to the needs of the volunteers. They are likely to be acting as a role model, and hence their skills and previous experiences will be a valuable tool in raising the profile of the club and it’s attitude to volunteering.

Other key attributes include:

Good planning and organisational skills
Ability to motivate
A desire to help others develop their own abilities and qualifications.

Should you be interested in learning more about the role of the Volunteer Co-ordinator, then contact Hayley Bullock on 01749 341552.
