New Facilities at Minehead Recreation Ground - they need your votes!

Plans for a new building at Minehead Recreation Ground to replace the existing football changing rooms and hall (old Barrington's club) and new floodlighting for the football pitch have been approved by West Somerset District Council planners. The plans involve the demolition of the existing building and replacing it at a site alongside with a modern purpose built structure which will meet the needs of Minehead Football Club and provide a hall for community groups and functions to use during weekdays and in the evenings.

Minehead Town Council and Minehead Football Club are working together on a fund raising campaign. The cost of the new building will be £800,000 and a range of funders have been approached and several expressions of interest approved. It is planned to develop funding interest over the next 6 months so that construction can start next spring.

Minehead Town Council own the Recreation Ground and the new build will form part of the Council's vision to make the Rec a focus for outdoor recreation in the town. The play area at the Rec has recently been refurbished and funding has been received for a 10 station outdoor gym. There are also plans to refurbish the tennis courts and Multi Use Games Area. The new build will provide a focal point.

Minehead football Club have applied to the Jewsons Building Better Communities Fund for the £50,000 Regional prize. The project has been shortlisted from 200 applications to a shortlist of 25 of which only 4 are in the South West. To show community support the project needs people to vote! You can do this by following this link: https://www.buildingbettercommunities.co.uk/regional_entry/minehead-fc-new-facilities/

The award of the grant depends 50% on the number of voted received so everyone is encouraged to get the word out via their social media or e mail. The grant is only small in terms of the total cost but vital as the funding package is developed so please vote by the 19th June. Minehead deserves some modern facilities to serve the local community!

If anyone would like to view the detailed plans they can be viewed at Minehead Town Council offices in Summerland Road. If you would like to express an initial interest in using the hall please contact the Project Lead Colin Johnson cjohnson@sasp.co.uk or Tel 01823 653990
