About SASP
Somerset Activity & Sports Partnership is the County Sports Partnership for Somerset, one of 49 across England established by Sport England to be the strategic lead for sport in the country.
SASP’s team is funded through a variety of partners which include Sport England, Local authorities, National Governing Bodies of Sport, Department of Health and income generated through its coaching team.
Established in 1999 (originally as the Somerset Active Sports Partnership) and is hosted by Somerset County Council through the Young Peoples Directorate.
Its main function is to:
- Deliver sports services to National Governing Bodies for Sport and offer links to key partners
(clubs, local authorities, School Sport Partnerships).
- Support club, coach and volunteer development.
- Signposting National Governing Bodies to local opportunities for young people in sport including Sport Unlimited.
- Understanding facility requirement for sport
- Increase levels of investment in county sport by Sport England and other sources of funding.
- Develop strategic alliances and networking by key partners in sport in Somerset.
- Develop links between physical activity and sport with key health partners in the county.
- Develop a coaching workforce in the county to deliver increases in opportunities in community sport.
